Listing type fields

The Fields tab is the data model and submission form for a listing type. Drag fields into Used fields, reorder them, and expand each field to configure its key, validation, visibility, and other options.

Used fields appear in the add/edit listing form unless a visibility rule hides them. The Title field is present by default, is required, and cannot be removed. Preset fields retain behavior that a similarly named custom field may not provide.

Preset fields include Description, Tagline, Location, Category, Region, Tags, Contact Email, Logo, Cover Image, Gallery Images, Website, Phone Number, Video URL, Event Date, Date, Related Listing, Work Hours, Products, Social Networks, Price Range, Form Heading, General Repeater, and Restaurant Menu. Custom taxonomies also appear as preset fields after they are created.

The editor groups custom fields by purpose:

  • input fields such as Text, Textarea, WP Editor, Password, Date, Recurring Date, Number, URL, Email, File Upload, Video URL, and General Repeater;
  • choices such as Select, Multiselect, Checkboxes, and Radio Buttons;
  • relational fields such as Related Listings, Product Select, and Product Multiselect;
  • UI fields such as Form Heading.

Use a stable, descriptive field key. Existing keys may be used by shortcodes, blocks, filters, imports, and custom code, so avoid changing them after content has been entered. The key name is reserved; the editor changes it to an available key beginning with name-field when saving. Duplicate keys are also made unique.

Category, Region, Tags, and custom taxonomy fields can use Single Select, Multiselect, Term Hierarchy, or Term Checklist. Multiselect and checklist fields can enforce a maximum selection count, including package-specific limits. Use taxonomies for values visitors need to filter efficiently or browse as term archives.

Options vary by field type, but commonly include Required?, placeholder, description, Show this field in the submit form, Show this field in the admin editor, Show in listing comparison popup, and package-visibility conditions. Related fields, repeaters, files, locations, text fields, choices, dates, and taxonomies add their own limits; several support per-package overrides. A limit of 0 means no limit where the editor states that behavior.
