Order events by event date

Configure event order once in the listing type, then reuse that order in Explore and Listing Feed. The exact setup depends on whether an event has one date or recurring occurrences.

  1. Edit the event listing type and open Search Forms → Listing Order.
  2. Add an ordering option, name it “Upcoming events,” and move it to the desired position.
  3. In its first clause, choose Custom Field and select the event’s Date or Recurring Date field.
  4. For a normal Date field, set Data type to Date. Recurring Date fields use MyListing’s events table automatically and do not show the Data type control.
  5. Set the direction to Ascending and update the listing type.
  6. Open Search Forms → Search Index and rebuild if the index is marked out of date.

Add an Order by filter to the Advanced Form if visitors should be able to select the option. To make “Upcoming events” the normal order, drag it to the first position; MyListing uses the first ordering option when the request has no valid sort value.

Edit the Listing Feed widget and set Find listings using: to Filters. Set Use listing type order? to Yes, choose the event type under Listing type, and choose “Upcoming events” under Order by. This directly reuses the configured order and avoids reproducing a simple event query through a copied Explore URL.

Use Find listings using → Explore page query URL only when the feed also needs a combination of public Explore filters. Apply the filters and order on the Explore page, copy its URL, and paste it into Paste the URL here.
