Add a basic search form

The Basic Search Form gives visitors a compact way to choose a listing type and submit a search to an Explore page.

  1. Open the page with Elementor.
  2. Add the MyListing → Basic Search Form widget.
  3. Under Listing Types, add and order at least one non-global listing type that should be searchable.
  4. Under Display listing types as, choose Tabs or Dropdown. Tabs are the default.
  5. When using tabs, select the Transparent, Light, or Dark Tab style. Transparent is the default.
  6. Enable Box shadow if needed. It is off by default.
  7. Set Submit to page only when searches should open a different page containing an Explore Listings widget; otherwise leave it empty.
  8. Update the page and test a search for each listing type.

The fields shown for each type come from Listing Types → edit a type → Search Forms → Basic Form. Add, remove, or reorder fields there; the Elementor widget does not define the filters.

There are three places that can set the destination. MyListing uses the first one available in this order:

  1. Listing Types → edit a type → Search Forms → Basic Form → Submit to page for the active type.
  2. Submit to page in the Elementor widget.
  3. Theme Tools → Theme Options → Explore → Default Explore Listings page.

Both page fields expect a WordPress page ID. A type-specific destination overrides the widget destination, so test every tab or dropdown option when the form contains multiple types.

MyListing can also generate a search-form shortcode under Theme Tools → Shortcodes → Search Form. Select the listing types and optional Search Page ID, copy the generated shortcode, and place it in Elementor’s Shortcode widget. A type-specific Submit to page still takes priority over the shortcode’s search-page ID.

The native Basic Search Form widget is easier to maintain in Elementor and exposes its display controls directly, so use the shortcode mainly when a widget cannot be placed in the target content area.
